Bathroom of the Year
Our clients asked us to help them realize their vision of a more modern, space-efficient and functional bathroom. The current room was outdated and ill-suited to their needs, with a bulky garden tub and separate shower that occupied more space and provided less value than they preferred.
Working together with our designers, they soon found the way forward in a way they hadn’t been able to define themselves. The resulting plan called for a huge walk-in shower that was more practical and attractive than their previous fixtures. The new shower featured adjustable rain shower head combined with a smart handheld sprayer. Aesthetically, the clients arrived at a sophisticated stacked subway tile that emphasizes the shower’s clean lines, showcased by a seamless clear glass shower wall that kept the room’s feel open and airy.
To further improve the light in the bathroom, a large window was replaced by privacy-enhancing glass block, a classic choice that complemented the stylish subway tile while improving the amount of natural light available.
Lastly, a beautiful, modern double vanity replaced the bulky, dark wood of the previous fixture. This delivered much more usable storage space and clean lines that didn’t obstruct the room’s flow, all accented by a unique textured tile backsplash.
It took the client’s visions and Aleto’s imagination to bring it all together, but the results speak for themselves: a modern, welcoming bathroom that feels like a luxurious private retreat instead of a boxy, outdated problem.
Kitchen of the Year
A couple living in the Central West End in St. Louis wasn’t enjoying cooking in their kitchen very much. The reason soon became clear to them: It wasn’t their galley kitchen, it was their parents’- or at least a clone of their parents’ kitchen, complete with vintage 1980s cabinetry, floors, fixtures and finishes.
They needed something bigger, something smarter, and something from the 21st century. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to move walls to bring their vision to life. When they called Aleto to help them make their vision a reality, they worked with our designers to find a smart solution in the removal of the wall between kitchen and dining room. The new open space felt natural and connected, the perfect place to rebuild the perfect modern kitchen.
With the space obstacles overcome, the clients were free to dream big and Aleto helped turn their ideas into a practical kitchen work triangle configuration. With the expanded space, a large island with sink and dishwasher was added, with space for kitchen seating. The addition of floating shelves over bright, charming wallpaper provided both storage and showcasing opportunities for the dry bar.
Modern blue cabinetry and top-shelf appliances put the perfect finish on this new center of the house. The dramatic focus of the stainless range hood, as well as the refined look of the broad stone backsplash, give the kitchen an interest – and a functionality – that the clients’ parents could only have dreamed of.
In St. Louis Hills, a small, unassuming ranch home had seen better days. It seemed that the world had passed it by, leaving it stranded in its bygone era. Its owners, however, saw something special in its tired brick façade and ancient interior accents. To take on a whole-house restoration meant they would have to bring in the experts – so they called Aleto to find out what we could do with the home.
Together, we created a comprehensive plan to refresh, renovate and rejuvenate the WW2-era home from top to bottom, front to back – and far beyond. Today the once-small home now offers almost 2,600 sq. ft. of luxurious space, including four bedrooms and three and a half baths. Aleto delivered a sleek and functional new kitchen; a delightful, tray-ceilinged new family room; an indulgent new master suite; additional new bedroom and charming powder room.
These additions complement the renovated original spaces. The old kitchen became the mud room and laundry; an old bathroom was refreshed and expanded to include a double vanity; new hardwood floors extend throughout the home, unifying its new floor plan; and the tired old fireplace now sports a stylish and modern design.
The home’s lower levels were also partially renovated, creating additional living and entertaining spaces. And of course, the exterior received a fresh new treatment that leaves the 1950s far behind. The new home is so striking, in fact, that the Purina Company approached the owners for permission to shoot commercials on site.
