Renovating a historic home comes with both challenges and rewards, and our recent project was a perfect example of blending modern convenience with timeless charm. Our clients approached us with an ambitious vision: to install an elevator in their three-story home using our signature DIY-assisted renovation approach. They wanted something that preserved the character of the home while improving accessibility and adding a touch of luxury—and we were excited to help bring that vision to life.
Drawing on our deep experience and technical knowledge, we framed a new elevator shaft that extended from the basement all the way to the third floor. This part of the renovation required precision and expertise to integrate seamlessly into the existing structure without compromising the integrity of the home. The homeowners had sourced their own elevator unit, which we then installed within the newly framed shaft. This DIY collaboration approach allowed the clients to take an active role in the project while benefiting from our construction expertise.
A key element of the elevator installation was maintaining the aesthetic of the historic home. We carefully matched the existing doors and hardware so that the entrance to the elevator looked like it had always been part of the original design. Every detail, from the trim to the doorknobs, was chosen to echo the vintage style of the home, ensuring a seamless blend of old and new. Inside the elevator, the owners added their own finishing touches. They selected a sophisticated wallpaper and paint palette that turned the small space into a refined vertical room. With stylish lighting and thoughtful design, the interior of the elevator exudes elegance—proof that even utilitarian spaces can have personality.
The owners partnered with us again to add a stunning wet bar and drink station in the living room, positioned on the opposite wall from the elevator. This new addition enhances the entertaining potential of the space while echoing the same attention to detail. Custom cabinetry, sleek countertops, and classic fixtures brought the wet bar to life, making it a stylish and functional feature.
